Osmanthus — A Fragrance With More Than 2,500 Years of Cultural History

Osmanthus fragrans has been cultivated in China for more than 2,500 years and has a long history of use as a fragrant edible flower. Its flowers have been incorporated into foods, teas, and beverages largely because of their distinctive aroma.

Modern analytical research can identify the volatile and non-volatile compounds present in osmanthus. What it cannot do, however, is turn research on concentrated extracts or isolated compounds into proof that an ordinary cup of osmanthus tea treats disease. Human clinical evidence remains much more limited than laboratory research.

For this blend, the most immediate role of osmanthus requires no health claim at all: fragrance.

Asian Pear — The Ingredient That Bridges Flowers and Fruit

Asian pears are familiar foods across East Asia and have also appeared historically in folk-medicine traditions. Modern food-science reviews describe Asian pears as containing dietary fiber and multiple classes of polyphenols, while studies of pear germplasm have identified hundreds of metabolites and numerous volatile aroma compounds.

Drying also changes pear chemistry and aroma. Research comparing drying methods in Asian pear has found measurable changes in both phenolic composition and volatile profiles. In other words, dried pear is not simply “fresh pear without water” — processing changes the sensory character of the ingredient.

In our tea, dried Asian pear has a straightforward culinary purpose: it softens the floral profile and creates a gentle bridge between osmanthus, chrysanthemum, and the sweeter dried fruits.

Chrysanthemum Buds — From Tea Tradition to Modern Food Chemistry

Chrysanthemum has an unusually deep history in Chinese food and tea culture. Modern reviews describe Chrysanthemum morifolium as having developed from food and tea use into medicinal applications over a history spanning thousands of years.

Food-science research has identified flavonoids, phenolic acids, volatile oils, and terpenes in chrysanthemum materials, while modern tea-processing studies show that drying and heat treatment affect its color, phytochemical profile, and aroma.

That does not mean our finished tea can be advertised as improving eyesight, “clearing heat,” or treating inflammation. In this formulation, chrysanthemum has a much simpler and more defensible job: adding a clean secondary floral layer beneath the osmanthus

Goji — Color, Composition & Gentle Berry Sweetness

Goji berries (Lycium barbarum) are familiar both as dried foods and as traditional ingredients. Modern food-science reviews describe them as containing carotenoids, polysaccharides, phenolic compounds, organic acids, carbohydrates, and other constituents.

But composition is not the same as clinical efficacy. A tea containing a small quantity of whole goji berries should not inherit every biological effect reported for isolated polysaccharides, extracts, animal models, or concentrated juices.

Here, goji contributes mild berry sweetness, color, and visual texture.

Red Date — A Deeper Dried-Fruit Finish

Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba), commonly called red date in Chinese cuisine, has a long history as both a fruit and a traditional ingredient. Food-science reviews describe jujube as containing phenolic compounds, flavonoids, polysaccharides, and other components, although composition varies with cultivar, maturity, and processing.

For this blend, however, its most important contribution is sensory: red date gives the cup a deeper, warmer dried-fruit sweetness that contrasts with the lighter pear and floral notes.
